Don't Roll Your Eyes at Food Allergies..Please

I've had a tough week so far, food allergies still playing way too much of a role in our lives.  I'm trying my best to always count my blessings, think half glass full but at times I just want to cry.  I was unable to sleep so I signed onto facebook to find a post about food allergies, and there I found parents back and forth at it each other about peanut free schools, school classrooms, school tables, and so on.  So many misconceptions and so much anger.  I could go on and on about it, but in the end it's sad how much people really know about food allergies.

I just wanted to share a quick message to everyone who bothers to read this...

Food allergies are more and more common these days. More the reason to educate yourself. Too often many roll their eyes at the first mention, worried their child can't have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch in school but it is much more than that. It is unfortunately a case of life and death for many children.

Do you know all food allergies are different from person to person? Some are more severe than others. Some people have food allergies that aren't that severe. Treat every person you meet with an allergy as a unique case as every allergy is different.

Also PEANUTS are NOT the only severe food allergy out there. Know that food allergies can KILL. Not just by eating, but being breathed in, accidentally touched and rubbed on eyes or mouth. Please know that this is a terrible sickness without a known cure, if you know someone in your life with severe food allergies - educate yourself for their safety.

CRISPROOT Cassava Chips #Review

I received the item/s for the purpose of review, all opinions are a 100% my own.  No other compensation was provided.
I recently got the opportunity to try CRISPROOT cassava chips made out of cassavas.  I had no idea what to expect when I first gave it a try.  It was thicker and crunchier than your regular chip, and full of flavor.  Great for dips, and of course by itself.  It's a great change from regular potato and corn chips.  There was nothing odd about the taste or texture of the chip as someone (me) trying it for the first time might be afraid of.
Since I've tried it, I actually prefer it more than the usual "regular" chip.  They are gluten free, you can get a full view of their nutritional information on their website.  I love that they contain no transfat, no cholesterol, and are dairy and gluten free.  But it should be noted, it is stated that they are processed in a facility that contains dairy and soy though.  If you're looking for new a snack to send in your child's lunch box, or a snack for yourself - give these a try.  It comes in Thai Ginger, Sea Salt, BBQ Bliss, and Original flavors.  It might be because it's the safest flavor I could eat around my son, but I love the Sea Salt flavor the most.

Luigi's Italian Ices - Great After School Treat #Review

*I received item/s for the purpose of review.  No other compensation was provided.  All opinions are a 100% my own.
What can I say about delicious Italian ices at home?  Luigi's Italian Ices are a family favorite and our number one choice when it comes to ices at home now.  Perfectly fruity, sweet and sour (depending on flavor) and a wonderful dairy free frozen treat.  I have been having one everyday while I stand in the kitchen cooking, and may be guilty for another for dessert too.
strawberry flavor
Luigi's Italian Ices come in fun flavors such as Cherry, Watermelon, Lemon, Mango, Cotton Candy and more.  I can't say I have a favorite as they are all great.  I was hesitant and honestly didn't think I'd like it.  I expected it to be too sweet and fully expected the taste of artificial coloring but didn't.

The school year just started yesterday for children in New York City, these would be a perfect treat for your children to come home from school to.  Learn more about them on their website and look for them next time you're out grocery shopping.

Duane Reade I used to go shopping with my family when I was younger...
You know that store in the corner near your home, near your school..near your work that you run to every time when you need something?  That store for me has been Duane Reade for years now.  It was the store before I paid mind to what store it really was, I just knew it was the store I went to when I needed cards, beauty products, snacks, school supplies, to get my pictures developed, and more.  It was the store before social media became what it is today, and now I follow my favorite go-to store Duane Reade on twitter where they have reached one million twitter followers!  It's exciting to have been a follower from the beginning and to have seen the numbers grow.  We celebrated by making a few shopping trips to all our favorite Duane Reade stores.

Almost every child's favorite section...
Now thinking back Duane Reade was where many memories were created for me.  I think back to that corner store in Woodside, Queens I remember walking in with my mom picking up something quick, then later on growing up buying my first beauty products.  My mom passed away when I was a sophomore in high school, so any memories with her are truly treasured.  I wish I could tell my mom how now I tweet with Duane Reade.  Duane Reade is the store I went to when I was looking for snacks to keep me awake during crazy study hours, when I was a student in the city.  Now my little boy who recently turned five loves Duane Reade and mentions it by name when we need something, or when he wants an excuse to go so he can visit the toy section.  The store I turn to for school supplies as I prepped up for our first official year of homeschooling.

Always something for everyone...
As a blogger I've enjoyed sharing my shopping experiences with you all, and witnessing Duane Reade grow on Twitter.  Duane Reade stores themselves have been getting renovations, and it's all so exciting to be have been a shopper from the beginning. I love Duane Reade for always having what we need, and then some but most of all always having convenient locations all over New York City.  It's fun because now you can become one of the one million followers on Twitter, and follow them on all their other social media accounts, find them all out on their website.  This year the most exciting app I have become dependent on has to be the Duane Reade app, I'm obsessed with ordering photos from my phone along with all it's other great features.  Duane Reade thanks for always having all that we've needed over the years, and thanks for being so social - even with one million plus followers I love that you're a tweet away!  Congratulations, here's to a million more!

The Sleeping Beauty - A Journey to the Ballet of the Mariinsky Theatre Illustrated by Nikita Polyansky #BookReview

I received the item/s for the purpose of review, all opinions are a 100% my own.  No other compensation was provided.
I'm no expert at reviewing books, and not sure what the "proper" way is, but you if you know me at all, I'll tell you how it is, and only recommend items we like here.  We received "The Sleeping Beauty - Journey to the Ballet of the Mariinsky Theatre" illustrated by Nikita Polyansky recently and I sat down to read it to my niece (9), little sister (6), and son (5).

The girls seemed to love the story.  I did have to stop and explain some parts to the younger two but since they were familiar with the original "Sleeping Beauty" they understood it without a problem after a few pause with discussions.

It starts off with a young girl who loved ballet, Lena-Gabrielle wishing to attend the Mariinsky Theatre on Christmas day to see The Sleeping Beauty ballet.  When her father tells her it isn't possible, she ventures out on her own determined to see the show.  The rest of the story goes into this version of the Sleeping Beauty and ends with her back home in her bed.  It was cute how the little girl had help from a statue or two along the way to the theatre.  Unlike the original, sleeping beauty has six fairy godmothers in this version, and it is one of the godmothers that gets upset because the king forgot to invite her.  When it came time for the fairy godmothers to present their gifts to the princess, the one fairy godmother (Fairy Carabosse) declared that the princess would have her hand pierced with a spindle and die of the wound.  One of the other fairy godmothers, Lilac fairy did what she can and made it that instead of dying she would fall into a deep sleep for one hundred years.

I think I've said enough, even though this is a children's tale, I don't want to give away all the details.  That's what makes this version interesting, and fun to read - the differences it has from the original or common we know of.  All the kids liked this, and having it be different made it interesting.
You can purchase The Sleeping Beauty online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  Suggested list price is $20.
